Jesus Christ goes to Jerusalem as King (the Messiah)Is Jesus Christ your King?

Text LUKE 19: 28-43; Mat Romans 10:8-13

Jesus entered Jerusalem the last time as king to be crucified for the sins of humans and resurrected on the third day for our justification. And that whoever will receive Him receives God’s blessings. But those who do not want him to be king over them will be destroyed.

Today, I want us to focus on Jesus Christ’s kingship.

Palm Sunday message (Luke 19:28-43)

Divine provision of the donkey: Jesus needed it (19:28-34); the Procession, Celebrating Jesus as king (19:35-37); Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord (19:38): a fulfilment of a prophecy in Zachariah 9:9; Don't criticise the things of God (19:39); the stones will cry out (19:40); the destruction of Jerusalem foretold (19:41-44).

What has King Jesus done for human beings?

  1. To make human beings God’s children (John 1:11-12; Gal 3:26-29); something we lost in the fall (Genesis 3). This is the solution to human problems: that we become holy and righteous.

  2. To teach human beings the Word of God to give us understanding about how to live here on earth and in eternity. The teachings of Jesus are what most people lack (Titus 2:11-15). E.g, how to love (Titus 2:4; John 21:15-17), how to behave well, etc.

How to receive Jesus Christ as your king: Confession of him as your Lord (Romans 10:8-13). What does this mean? You repent of your sins and be baptised (Acts 2:38-41), follow him (Mark 8:34-38, love and obey him (John 14:15), pray to God in his name (John 14:12-14), and don’t work against him (Acts 26:14; Luke 19:11-27).

Conclusion: receiving Jesus as king is not just a personal decision; but according to Scripture, Jesus will destroy all who did not receive him as the king (e.g., Luke 19:27; John 3:17).
