Some background understandings
The punishments of parents and ancestors from God come upon the children and their children’s children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate God (Exodus 20:4).
The blessings of parents and ancestors from God are passed down to children and their children’s children for a thousand generations of those who love God (Exodus 20:5; 1 Cor 16:22).
Why can't curses go away by themselves without coming on someone "? Answer: According to Scripture, sin must either be punished or atoned for ( see Heb. 9:22). In the New Testament, everyone has two options: either they receive the penalty for their sins or they go to Jesus for Him to make atonement for their sins. Do you want to receive the penalty for your sins, or do you want Jesus to absorb your sins on the Cross?
Ahab’s children and close friends were killed ( 2 Kings 9:6-10; 10:6-11) because of his sins of idol worship and the murder of Naboth (1 Kings 21).
