How should we thank the Almighty God for all His goodness?
Text Micah 6:6-8; Acts 12:21-24
Sometimes, people do not know how to thank God. Scripture teaches us about the various types of Thanksgiving to God, depending on what He does for us.
For the Salvation and redemption of the human soul
Our thanksgiving to God is to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God: in worship, service, etc. (Exodus 8:1; Romans 12:1-2).
For the creation and our humanity
Our thanksgiving to God is to acknowledge him with praise as the creator; it is sin not to thank God as the creator and for our humanity (Romans 1:18-32).
Thanksgiving to God from the Leaders
Leaders should give thanks and praise to God publicly. They must honour God before the people theyclead. God brings disgrace and sometimes death upon leaders who refuse to give him praise (e.g,. Moses, Num 20:1-13; Herod, Acts 12:21-24; Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel 4)
For the forgiveness of sins
To offer a guilt offering with restitution to the one you offended and a sin offering to the Lord (e.g.,
Leviticus 6).
Thanksgiving to God for being alive (atonement of your soul)
Must pay the Lord a ransom for his life at the time he is counted (Exodus 30:11-16). In the NT, Jesus has paid the ransom price for believers (e.g., Mark 10:45).
Thanksgiving to God by the Society
We should practice justice, mercy, and faithfulness ( Micah 6:1-8; Matthew 23:23)
Thanksgiving to God for our harvest/wages
We are to bring our first fruit and tithes to the Lord (Prov. 3:9; Mal 3:10; Matt 23:23). Everything that has breath should praise the Lord, with the mouth, instruments, in the Sanctuary, for all His deeds (Psalm 150:1-6).
