In His Sovereignty, God places us in different situations accordingly(understanding Divine Order)
Today’s sermon explores God’s sovereignty, how God is the one who determines which situation we should be in according to our deeds, what we give ourselves to, and according to His Plans.
Text 2 Samuel 22:21-28; Psalm 90:1-6;
1. ‘Apparent discriminating visitation of God’s blessings’ (Amos 3:7-9)
Rain in one city, no rain in another; one family is flourishing, another is not; a friend is doing well, another is not. What should be done? Those receiving God’s grace should bear fruit; those not receiving God’s grace should put their lives in order.
2. A thorn in the flesh of the righteous
To keep the righteous like Paul, from being proud, God sometimes gives ‘a thorn in the flesh’, uncomfortable situations (e.g., 2 Cor 12:6-10). Some of the thorns could include a nagging spouse, illness, a handicap or defect, etc. What should you do? Focus on the many blessings God has given you and be productive.
3. God places us among bad people (e.g., Judges 3:1-4).
This is a test from the Lord to see if we will obey him by not becoming like the wicked. Sadly, some people let bad people influence them to become bad. Walk with the wise and you will become wise (Prov. 13:20).
4. Delayed rewards from God
God may delay our reward because we must wait for others to complete their assignments in saving many souls into God’s kingdom (e.g., Hebrews 11:13-16, Revelation 6:9-11). What should we do? Be patient and allow the promises of God to inspire us to remain faithful.
