Our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces (a theology of redemption)
Text Ephesians 6:10-13; Judges 3:1-4
The situation: some of the creations of God have rebelled against him, and these have become enemies of humans and all good things (e.g, Rev 12:7-12).
N.B. Some people don't believe in spiritual issues, others are obsessed with them. God wants us to be aware of them (2 Cor 2:11) and live godly (e.g., Judges 3:1-4).
Understanding the devil's schemes
He attacks the sources of your blessings. E.g., your faith in God, the church, God's word, marriage, health, character, etc.
He works through what/who is closer to you (in wrestling, there must be contact).
What to do?
Many expressions have been used in Scripture to talk about what to do to overcome spiritual attacks:
Resist him ( 1 Peter 5:8-11)
Put on the full armour of God (Eph 6:)
Dwell in the Secret place of God (Psalm 91)
Sitting at the feet of the right-hand side of God (Psalm 110:1)
Summary: True protection comes from God, and He gives it to those who love and obey him (e.g., Isaiah 54:16-17; John 14:23).
