Sin is ugly, wicked, and very difficult to deal with

(Our world is plagued with sin, and God is very concerned)

Text Genesis 6:1-8; Romans 3:9-18;

Our Prayer is that God should deliver us from sin and help us to be holy

  • Sin is ugly, wicked, and destroys
    Sin makes you do evil and disgraceful things to yourself, others, and God. E.g., Cain killed Abel (Gen 4 ); David committed adultery and killed the woman’s husband (2 Sam 11-12). Judas betrays Jesus for money and kills himself (Matt 27:1-6). All these sins are patterns. The wages of sin are death (Rom 6:23).

  • Man makes himself a sinner: how?
    Inspired by the devil, man desires, pursues, and chooses to do what is against God’s commandments (e.g., Genesis 6:5-8).

    • In good times, man becomes arrogant, proud, and disrespects God (e.g., 1 Sam 25; Dan. 5).

    • In bad times, which is divinely designed to humble us and teach us lessons (Deut. 8:2-5), we

    • complain, grumble, and talk against God (e.g., 1 Cor 10:1-10)

  • Sin is difficult to deal with:

    • Bloodshed defiles the land, and the only way to cleanse the land is through the blood of the murderer (Num 35:33-34).

    • The human heart is desperately wicked and deceitful, beyond cure (Jer 17:9)

    • Nothing can deal with sin, except the Holy sacrifice of Jesus Christ’s body (Heb. 10:1-10).

  • Human depravity and the necessity of the New Birth:

    • Because of sin, Adam and Eve were not allowed to reach out their hands and also take from the tree of life and eat and live forever (Genesis 3:21-24). Jesus said, unless you are born again, you cannot see or enter God's kingdom (John 3:1-6; Rev 22)
