How to first seek the kingdom of God and its righteousness
How to first seek the kingdom of God and its righteousness
In today’s sermon, we shall look at how People must put God first in all they do.
Text Matt. 6:31-34; Luke 16:16-17
From the context (Matt 6:31-34): Jesus is telling us at least two main things:
You should not worry about life, but make sure you are part of God’s kingdom (born again, John 3:1-6; Luke 16:16 ). N.B. The sin of worry ensnares (traps) the poor as much as the love of wealth does the rich.
You should seek God's way of life (e.g., Isaiah 55). No feminism, idol worship, don’t spend your time, energy, money, life, on vanity.
In decision-making, when you put God first by not leaning on your understanding (Prov . 3:5-10), your decision will be right and godly. E.g., Jesus Luke 22:41-42; Joseph's decisions about Potipher’s wife (Gen. 39:7-10), David's decision to build God a temple (2 Sam 7).
Dealing with people: be fair, sincere, pure, just, godly (Zach 8:14-18). E.g. David & Saul, 2 Sam 24:5-13).
Service to God: He must be first and offer good quality service to God (e.g Mal 1:6-14)
In Missions: we preach Christ to the people and we ourselves as servants of the Word. Then we will be successful (2 Cor. 4:5).
Predicting your future. E.g., Paul could predict his future with full assurance of God’s blessings ( 2 Tim 4:6-8) because he put God first in everything. Moses predicted the future of Israel with doom and gloom because they did not put God first (Deut. 31:27-29).
