A righteous person brings out virtuous deeds. A bad person brings out evil.
(Make a tree good and its fruit will be good)
Text Matthew 12:33-37 ; Heb. 3:7-15.
A good tree bears good fruit, a bad tree bears bad fruit, and a tree is recognised by its fruit.
The story of the frog and scorpion fits here perfectly.
Your character is who you are. Our kindness won’t fix people’s character. Some argue that there are certain people you shouldn’t help. But Jesus’ message is very encouraging, he says, make a person good, and they will be good, make them bad, and they will be bad ’ (Matt 12:33-37).
Who can change a scorpion? Only God, the Creator, can change a person (Jer 13:23; 17:9). The two baskets of figs (Jeremiah 24) and the parable of the Net (Matthew 13:47-51) The bad figs or fish are those who cannot be changed even by God; the good figs or fish are those who can receive forgiveness and be born again.
Why do some people become so bad that they cannot be changed, even by God, while others can be changed? The answer is that the former believe in God and obey him, while the latter hardened their hearts (e.g., Hebrews 3:7-19).
GOD CHANGES HUMANS FOR HIS GLORY
God changed Saul because He was making him a king (1 Samuel 10:9). God changed the exiles for His glory (Ezekiel 36); Jesus changes sinners and makes them righteous, unblemished, as a beautiful bride for Himself (Ephesians 5:25-32). When Jesus meets you, he aims to change you, to give you the new birth (John 3:1-5).
