Loving God and Obeying His Commandments: Solution to every problem

Text Exodus 20:5-6; John 3:16-18;

Background

  • Loving God and obeying His commandments is the first and greatest commandment and also is the solution to every problem (Exodus 20:5-6; Matt 22:36-40).

  • Love is the motivation for anything good done in the universe (John 3:16; John 21:15-17).

  • Thus, wherever there is love, expect to see good things.

  • Wherever there is no love, expect hatred, bitterness, and destruction.

  • Those who love God receive the blessings of God (Exodus 20:5-6; John 14:23). Those

    who hate God bring curses on themselves (1 Cor.16:22).

What is lLove?
Love is thinking and doing things from the heart for the good of the Object (God, someone, self, something).

How to love God
Doing what He likes, living your life to please. God only blesses those who please him. Blessings flow from God to those who love Him (e.g., Genesis 27): a kingdom Principle.

Examples of people who loved God and the outcome of their lives.
Phinehas’ holy anger for God's honour: he received the Covenant of Peace for himself and his descendants to serve as priest forever (Numbers 25:1-13). Abel: offered an acceptable offering to God, and became the first righteous person (Hebrews 11:4)

Those who search for God are rewarded: Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8:26-40); Cornelians (Acts 10)
Jesus Christ gave his life as a ransom to save humankind from sin (Mark 10:45; Philippians 2:5-11)
